Not unpainted — chosen. In Kongo tradition, white is not the color of death but of the crossing: kaolin and chalk, the shining surface of the water that divides the living from the ancestors, the pigment ritual specialists wore to move between the worlds. The first KongoVerse Guardian is rendered in it — a numbered founder's run that will not be produced again in this form.
Every world the Kongo know is divided by a single line — the Kalunga, the boundary between the living and the ancestral dead. It is not a wall. It is water: the shining surface a soul crosses to reach the ones who came before.
The Skull Warrior stands at that line and faces both ways at once. His mask is bone — not because he is dead, but because he has already crossed and returned. It is the face death itself looks at, and steps back from.
Two leopards keep the line beside him. The leopard is the oldest sign of Kongo power and kingship, and the living emblem of the land itself. They were warriors once, who reached the boundary and chose not to cross, but to stay and guard the way for those still coming. His bow stays strung, his arrows close. He does not sleep. He does not cross. He simply stands, and the line holds.
